Kerry Lee le Roux: Receptionist
As the first person you are likely to meet upon entering the practice, we expect you will find Kerry’s friendly yet efficient demeanour reassuring. Kerry is the heart of the practice’s administration and manages all bookings — including consults, theatre and referrals. She assists patients by liaising with medical aids and providing vital information to help prepare them for their upcoming procedure or further consults. Kerry also takes care of the consulting room billing and works closely with Jaco, Sanmare and Zelda from MediPractice to ensure compliance to our billing policy that has the patient’s best interest at heart.
Michelle Mace: Body Talk Therapist and Nutritionist
Michelle Mace is a US and South African certified nutritionist, body talk practitioner and behavioral kinesiologist that has also trained in Human Needs Psychology. She has worked with staff at large companies like ABSA, Cell-C, UWC and UCT and is considered a local and international wellness expert. Michelle often lectures medical students at UCT on wellness and stress practices as well as a module for third year reflexology students. She has also presented workshops in the USA attended by Conversations with God author Neale Donald Walsch. She currently consults in Cape Town at our practice every Friday. As a team, Michelle and Dr Roodt make sure that our cancer patients in particular have a holistic treatment plan and feel fully supported. This very special working relationship between a surgeon and wellness practitioner is one you will have difficulty finding elsewhere.
Dr Lizelle Fourie: Radiation oncologist, Somerset West
Dr Lizelle Fourie comes with nearly 20 years of medical experience and is a renowned honorary lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch. Practicing throughout the winelands, Lizelle takes on a holistic approach with treatment, empowering her patients to understand their cancer, their treatment and recovery. As an academic, knowledge is power for Lizelle and all questions are answered when it comes to this genetic disease so that her patients can make informed decisions. Dr Fourie and Dr Roodt work closely and every treatment decision for every cancer patient is a joint decision made by these two caring physicians.
Dr Rory Dower: Specialist Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon
Rory Dower completed his formal training as a specialist plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon in South Africa, obtaining both his MMed (Plast Surg) and FC Plast Surg (SA) (board certification). He went on to complete two international fellowships in microsurgery with a special interest in breast reconstruction and treatment for lymphedema. The first of these at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team treating patients with breast cancer. The second, an advanced microsurgery fellowship at the China Medical University Hospital in Taiwan. This was followed by an observorship in implant breast reconstruction at the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. He is committed to helping treat women with breast cancer by being able to offer all types of breast reconstruction.
Sr Anzel Theart – Nursing needs
Sr Theart is a Certified Advanced Wound Care Practitioner based in the Helderberg Basin. Her practice strives to provide all patients with the necessary wound treatment prior to and after surgery to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient. Patients are assessed based on their unique requirements and the appropriate treatment is prescribed in line with the latest International Wound Care Standard, while keeping a cost-effective treatment in mind. Sr. Theart can see patients in the consulting room or at home and is often of great assistance with our older patients.
Therapy in action: Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, Somerset West
With their excellent team of dynamic and expert professionals, Therapy in Action is well positioned and equipped to take care of our patients post-operatively and to prevent and treat lymph oedema after breast / axillary surgery. They pride themselves on their ability to adapt and tailor their rehabilitation approaches to address patients’ needs efficiently. Each patient’s rehabilitation regime is different and tailor-made according to their diagnosis, personal and work-related needs. The therapists ensure that psychosocial risk factors (e.g. fear avoidance behaviour) are addressed early on so that the maximal rehabilitation benefits can be achieved. In combination with a robust and goal directed rehabilitation programme, they encourage patients to take ownership of their health.
Cheree Schorn: Clinical Psychologist
Cheree is a registered Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Somerset West. Her focus is primarily on adults and adolescents. She offers short & long-term psychotherapy using an eclectic therapeutic approach tailored to the specific needs of her patients. Her fields of interest are in health psychology and her contribution to the lives of our oncology patients is invaluable. She is part of our interdisciplinary team at Busamed offering psychotherapeutic services to oncology patients both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Cheree is also specialized in psychological evaluations and therapy of patients in preparation for bariatric surgery, and also works alongside a specialized bariatric team of allied health professionals.In addition, she treats WCA patients with psychological disorders as a result of injuries on duty. This is mostly alongside the physical rehabilitation that patients undergo.
Her services stretch as far as Caledon where she consults weekly at a medical practice in Caledon, where holistic care & preventative medicine is a primary focus. Cheree is passionate about her work and is dedicated to providing a high standard of care to her patients.
Claire Engelbrecht: Genetic Councellor
Clair Engelbrecht has an Masters degree in Genetic Counselling from the University of Cape Town, obtained in 2017.
After completing her internship at Tygerberg Hospital, Clair still works there part-time but has also moved into the private sector, where she consults from various private hospitals in and around Cape Town, including Busamed Paardevlei; Vincent Pallotti and Christiaan Barnardt Memorial Hospital.
She is passionate about patient care and genetics education and has given several talks on aspects of genetic counselling, ethics and genetic conditions.
Clair's clinical interests are primarily hereditary cancer but also include immunology and haematology genetics.
In line with international standards, no cancer patient is treated in isolation and each patient is discussed at our bi-monthly Winelands Multi-disciplinary Team meeting. Here our team of experts consider each patient-case individuality to make sure that the proposed treatment plan is in line with up to date scientific evidence and in the best interest of the patient. The panel of experts consists of two surgeons, an oncologist, two pathologists, a radiologist, a gynaecologist, a psychologist, a social worker, a plastic surgeon and geneticist.
