At Project Flamingo, we believe that every cancer patient deserves access to timely treatment and heartfelt support, no matter their circumstances.
We put this belief into action by helping where our skills and experience are most needed: in the public healthcare system in South Africa.
Since 2010, we have made a tangible impact on thousands of patients’ lives by providing timely surgeries and compassionate, holistic patient support to assist them at the most vulnerable stages of this disease.
Working in partnership with five key state hospitals in the Western & Eastern Cape, we leverage existing infrastructure and in turn strengthen the Public Health system to deliver treatment within acceptable timelines. Our volunteer surgeons and anaesthetists utilize theatre space on Saturdays to perform life-saving surgeries on vulnerable breast cancer patients who are exposed to long waiting periods due to hospital constraints.
However, our program extends beyond these surgeries by taking a holistic view of the patient through the following additional initiatives: funding additional resources at the Groote Schuur breast clinic, providing emotional support in the form of counseling, gifting pamper packs to newly diagnosed patients, and supplying nutritious food parcels for needy chemotherapy patients. Our compassionate care teams are dedicated to equitable cancer care and believe that everyone deserves access to breast cancer care regardless of their social circumstances.
